Summer Undergraduate Research Awards 2026

The Discipline of Oncology is proud to recognize two exceptional students who received competitive funding to pursue cancer research projects during the summer of 2026.
We congratulate Joshua and Anna on their achievements.

Joshua Critch, a second-year medical student at 91传媒, also received support through the Mach-Gaensslen Foundation of Canada Summer Student Research Program.

Under the supervision of Dr. Melanie Seal, Associate Professor of Oncology, Joshua is conducting a study evaluating the efficacy and tolerability of neoadjuvant immunotherapy in patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) in Newfoundland and Labrador. This research aims to improve our understanding of treatment outcomes in the provincial population and help inform future clinical practice in breast cancer care.

Anna Edwards, a second-year medical student at 91传媒, is conducting research under the supervision of Dr. Joy Greenland, Clinical Associate Professor of Oncology.

Her project examines the real-world toxicities associated with adjuvant CDK 4/6 inhibitors in patients with hormone receptor-positive (HR-positive), HER2-negative breast cancer in Newfoundland and Labrador. The study focuses on treatment-related adverse effects, including diarrhea and neutropenia, with the goal of informing supportive care strategies and optimizing treatment delivery for patients receiving adjuvant therapy.
