Undergraduate Brass Audition Guidelines
Repertoire
- Two (2) contrasting pieces (which could include single movements from larger works) that allow you to showcase your musical and technical development.
At least one of these must be in a Western classical style and at least one should include piano or other accompanying instrument. If you are unable to perform with a collaborative pianist, contact us to discuss an accommodation.
Technical Requirements (trumpet in Bb)
- G major scale (F concert pitch), one octave, descending only from G4 to G3 (middle G to low G), slurred, in eighth notes at quarter note = 60
- Any major scale that demonstrates your comfortable high range, two octaves ascending and descending, tongued, eighth notes at minimum tempo of quarter note = 72
- One harmonic minor and one melodic minor scale, different keys, one slurred and one articulated, eighth notes at minimum tempo of quarter note = 72
- C chromatic scale, start on low C and ascend two octaves or to your highest playable note, slurred, eighth notes at minimum tempo of quarter note = 96
