Undergraduate Woodwinds Audition Requirements | School of Music

Repertoire

Two (2) contrasting pieces of music (which could include single movements from larger works) that allow you to showcase your musical and technical development. Of these two selections, it is preferable that at least one include piano or other accompanying instrument.

One (1) étude of your choice, any style.

Applicants whose repertoire features piano accompaniment are required to perform their auditions with a collaborative pianist. If you are unable to perform with a collaborative pianist, contact us to discuss an accommodation.

Technical Requirements

All major scales, two octaves

All minor (harmonic and melodic) scales, two octaves

Chromatic scale from low C (C4) to high B natural (B6)

All applicants will be emailed two weeks before their live audition, or two weeks before the deadline to submit their audition video, with the specific Technical Requirements to perform or record. Applicants submitting videos should record the specific Technical Requirements in one take with no editing.

Oboe

Repertoire

Two (2) contrasting pieces of music (which could include single movements from larger works) that allow you to showcase your musical and technical development. Of these two selections, it is preferable that at least one include piano or other accompanying instrument.

Technical Requirements

Expected range: to high D only.

All major scales, two octaves where possible (within the expected range)

All harmonic and melodic minor scales, two octaves where possible (within the expected range)

Chromatic scale, two octaves, beginning on any note.

Clarinet

Repertoire

Two (2) contrasting pieces of music (which could include single movements from larger works) that allow you to showcase your musical and technical development. Of these two selections, it is preferable that at least one include piano.

All minor (harmonic and melodic) scales, two octaves

Chromatic scale beginning on low E, 3 octaves
