This bursary was created in memory of Anton Snarby through contributions from family, friends, and employers. Anton was a scholarship recipient who graduated from the Marine Institute’s Nautical Science Program (Class of 2010). Born in Newfoundland and raised in Nova Scotia, Anton came from a proud seafaring family with roots tracing back to Norway. Influenced by family stories of fishing and sealing adventures, Anton continued the family tradition by pursuing a career at sea.

Throughout his professional career, Anton worked in the North Atlantic for various fishing companies including  Northern Osprey, Qikiqtaaluk Corporation, and Mersey Seafoods. An extraordinary mariner, Anton was most at peace on the ocean. He was a friendly and thoughtful soul with an infectious smile and a deep love of nature. Anton’s legacy lives on through his two wonderful daughters, Amelia and Aubrey Snarby. This scholarship will reward a deserving student in a three year diploma program at the Marine Institute to help them with the cost of their education.
