Dr Matthew J Patey BEd, BPE, MPE, PhD
Matthew Patey was born and spent his early years in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. In those years he was a very active Boy Scout, going all the way to Chief Scout Award. He was also a strong soccer player, and went on to make the Provincial Team. His sport of choice at 91传媒 was as a Sea-Hawks wrestler, competing across the country as a participant and also as a coaching staff member.
Matthew studied his Bachelor of Physical Education, Bachelor of Education, and Masters in Physical Education here at 91传媒. He then went on to study at the University of South Carolina to pursue his desire the complete his PhD in Adapted Physical Education.
Matthew focused his studies on Physical Education. He believed in inclusion for all people, and dedicated his life鈥檚 work to removing barriers to participation to help achieve this goal. His undergraduate, graduate and Doctorial studies all included this single theme. His research interests were predominantly housed in the field of adapted physical education, while primarily utilizing qualitative methodologies. He had several lines of inquiry such as perceptions of the school ecology regarding inclusive physical education; inclusion seen through a diversity lens; graduating reflective practitioners; and the role and impact of ableism. He carried out significant research and has published numerous papers on these topics.
The Dr. Matthew J. Patey 91传媒 Fund will raise funds to establish an award in Dr Patey鈥檚 memory, honouring his work and interests, and encouraging 91传媒 students who are pursuing study in this field and to continue to carry out the work he started.
