Voluntary Retirement Program
In June 2026, 91传媒 will offer a one-time Voluntary Retirement Program for eligible employees. The program is designed to reduce costs while offering long-service faculty and staff additional financial support for retirement.
Compensation policy updated
The Board of Regents approved the revised鈥�&苍产蝉辫;Compensation policy for 91传媒 at its meeting on June 24, 2026.鈥�This policy, which applies to non-bargaining, management and professional, and leadership group employees, came into effect on July 1.
The updates strengthen clarity, consistency, accountability and fiscal responsibility in compensation administration at 91传媒.
Move 91传媒 Challenge: A Campus-Wide Journey of Connection and Momentum
The Move 91传媒 Challenge brought together students, faculty and staff from across campuses in a shared invitation to move more, connect more and support well-being in everyday ways.
Travel Health Insurance
Effective April 1, 2026, Emergency Medical Travel Insurance for 91传媒 employees and retirees will transition from Beneva (formerly SSQ) to Medavie Blue Cross. Medavie Blue Cross will mail new benefits cards for health, dental, and travel to 91传媒 employees and retirees in advance of the transition date.
Thrive Week
Employee Wellness and the Student Wellness and Counselling Centre have worked with partners across campuses to make this year鈥檚 Thrive Week a pan-university initiative. Thrive Week, a week full of events to promote well-being, will take place from Nov. 3-7, 2025.
Upcoming Banner HR upgrades
91传媒 recently announced a major upgrade to Self-Service that is coming in October (please click here for information) that will result in modernizations to the suite of products that the university utilizes: Student and Faculty, HR and Finance. As communicated, the Banner Self-Service upgrade will enable a number of new user-friendly features in Banner HR.鈥�
LTD over deduction refund
On the April 3, 2025 pay period, incorrect deductions were taken for Long Term Disability (LTD), health, dental and travel for active employees. On the April 17, 2025 pay period, a credit for the over deduction was issued for health, dental and travel.
On the August 21 pay period, a refund will be issued for LTD deductions. Please note, the over deduction only applies to those with annual earnings less than or equal to $141,157. The amount to be credited will vary for each employee as the LTD benefit and applicable deduction are based on an individual鈥檚 earnings. Refunds to be issued range from $0.64 to $5.66. Following this adjustment, biweekly deductions will return to your regular amount.
EAP provider change
91传媒鈥檚 Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provider will change from TELUS Health to GreenShield effective July 1, 2025.
TELUS Health EAP Services will be fully accessible to 91传媒 employees and retirees until June 30, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Anyone receiving counselling services with TELUS Health as of June 30 can continue with their treatment until natural case closure and will not be affected by the July 1 changeover.
Registration open for the Move 91传媒 Challenge!
The Department of Human Resources and the Student Wellness and Counselling Centre (SWCC) are challenging the 91传媒 community to move during the month of June. The Move 91传媒 Challenge encourages students and employees to work in teams of up to six people to complete 1,035 KM or 1.5 million steps in just 30 days (for a team of six people, this works out to 8,300 steps per person per day! The challenge starts on June 1 and ends June 30.
Deductions for Group Benefits
On the April 3, 2025 pay period, incorrect deductions were taken for Long Term Disability (LTD), health, dental and travel for active employees. An update on the refund for LTD, which will vary based on an employee鈥檚 annual salary, will be provided shortly.
Availability of Tax Information in CRA’s Portals and the Auto-Fill My Return Service
91传媒鈥檚 payroll team has been hearing from a number of employees and retirees that their T4/T4A/NR4 slip information is not showing up in their CRA My Account and their information is not available to auto-fill their tax returns. The university鈥檚 payroll team uploaded this information to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) on Feb. 24, 2025; however, once uploaded, CRA needs to process this information. Unfortunately, CRA is having technical issues and employers across the country are experiencing delays with their employees鈥� information being processed.
New Technology Solution for HR Assistance Requests
The Department of Human Resources has partnered with the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) to develop a technology solution to improve client service and create efficiencies. As of April 14, 2025, the Department of Human Resources is switching to a customized OnBase solution for the submission of requests for Human Resources assistance.
Flexible Work Arrangements Policy
The Flexible Work Arrangements policy was approved by 91传媒鈥檚 Board of Regents on March 6, 2025, and is effective April 1, 2025. This policy replaces the Guidelines for Remote Work Arrangements for Non-Academic Employees, piloted from Aug. 29, 2022 to March 31, 2025.
The new policy encompasses all flexible work arrangements (FWA), including remote work, reduced work weeks, job sharing, short-term lateral position exchanges, revised work schedules and compressed work schedules. For more information, please click here or consult the policy.
Volunteer Leave for 2025 Canada Summer Games

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – What is it?
TELUS Health is offering webinars throughout 2025 on the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Each session will provide a review of EAP services including what it is, the services covered and the different ways of using it. Whether you have questions about handling stress at work or home, parenting and childcare, managing money or health issues, you can turn to the EAP.

Disability Employment Awareness Month
Across Canada, October is recognized as Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM). In recognition of this month, 91传媒's Department of Human Resources and the Portfolio of the Vice-Provost, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism (EDI-AR) have organized several events to celebrate and discuss employment inclusion.
Human Resources case management system
The case management system used by the Department of Human Resources is undergoing changes over the coming months. During this time, case updates including when a case is resolved will continue to be provided via email; however, users will not be able to interact with cases in the employee portal.
Remote Work Arrangements for Non-Academic Employees
The Guidelines for Remote Work Arrangements for Non-Academic Employees have been extended from March 29, 2024 to Dec. 31, 2024.
Excess Leave Carry-Over Extension
The end date for the reduction of leave to a one-year carry-over limit has been extended from March 31, 2025 to Oct. 31, 2025.
Group Insurance Renewal and Rate Changes
Members of 91传媒's group insurance plans are advised that the plans have been renewed effective April 1, 2024. Detailed information on the renewal and rate changes can be found here. A separate renewal notice for postdoctoral fellows is available here.

2023 Tax Slips
Tax slips for 91传媒 employees, and pensioners who signed up to receive their tax information electronically, are now available online. Instructions on how to access your information in , is available by clicking on Accessing T4s.
Pensioners who have not signed up to receive their tax information electronically will receive their T4As by mail to the home address they have on file with Human Resources (these tax slips will be posted by Feb. 29).
belairdirect payroll deductions (formerly Johnson Insurance)
Johnson Insurance has informed 91传媒鈥檚 payroll team that payroll deduction will no longer be available as a payment option for policyholders as of their 2024 home and/or auto insurance policy renewal date.

At a meeting held on Dec. 2, 2021, 91传媒鈥檚 Board of Regents approved general economic increases for non-unionized employees who are paid on the non-bargaining, management and professional, and leadership pay scales. These increases are in alignment with the public sector template and unionized groups at 91传媒.
Community of Practice event - Indigenous Inclusion 2.0
During the fall, the and will be hosting a Community of Practice event titled Indigenous Inclusion 2.0. This event will take participants through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission鈥檚 recommendations related to the workplace, share locally relevant issues around Indigenous inclusion and provide examples of ways employers can work toward meaningful reconciliation. This event, conducted via Zoom, will be offered on a number of dates between Oct. 5 and Nov. 4.
91传媒 observing National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Sept. 30
In June, the federal government passed legislation to mark Thursday, Sept. 30, as a . To observe this day of reflection, 91传媒 will be closed; classes will be cancelled and university employees who are normally entitled to provincial and federal holidays will receive this day off.
Severance and other post-employment benefits
At a meeting held Dec. 5, 2019, the Board of Regents approved changes to severance and other post-employment benefits (OPEB) for non-bargaining, management and professional, and senior administrative management employees at 91传媒. These changes ensure consistency in the application of severance and OPEB practices for 91传媒鈥檚 staff employee groups.
