2027-2029 Strategic Planning
The outline served as the starting point for consultation with our internal and external communities. It reflected what we had heard at that stage and identified key ideas, priorities, and domains to guide the Faculty’s planning.
The consultation invited discussion, feedback, and new ideas from across the Faculty, our partners, and the communities we serve. The perspectives shared through this process are informing the continued development of the 2027–2029 strategic plan.
As a socially accountable Faculty of Medicine, we remain committed to responding to evolving health care needs and identifying opportunities for innovation in education and research. Updates on the strategic planning process and the development of the final plan will be added here as the work progresses.
What We’ve Heard (Recurring Themes)
1. Population Health and Workforce Sustainability
- Challenges include: aging population, chronic disease burden, workforce planning, recruitment and retention
- Need to grow and prepare the health workforce for team-based care
2. Education, Research and Innovation
- Prepare for a future with AI
- Maintain focus on educational excellence and learner support
- Clarify research direction and supports
3. Partnerships, Indigenous Health and Community Engagement
- Need meaningful relationships with Indigenous partners
- Rural and underserved populations
- Stronger collaboration with healthcare, government, academic and community partners
