Greetings from a fellow Nursing alumnus!
A Message from the Dean
Hello everyone! I’m Dr. April Pike, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, and I’m writing to you as a fellow alumna. 91´«Ã½ is where I earned my Bachelor of Nursing, my Master of Nursing and my PhD in Community Health in the Faculty of Medicine! You can read more about me here.
This year marks 60 years of nursing education at 91´«Ã½, and each of you is part of that story.
As Dean, I am proud to be part of a nursing program recognized nationally for its quality. In 2022, we received a full from the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN), the longest any nursing program can receive, for the fourth consecutive time. This is a testament to the quality of our program and our students.
At our ³§³Ù.&²Ô²ú²õ±è;´³´Ç³ó²Ô’s campus and our sites in Gander, ³Ò°ù²¹²Ô»å&²Ô²ú²õ±è;¹ó²¹±ô±ô²õ–W¾±²Ô»å²õ´Ç°ù and ±á²¹±è±è²â&²Ô²ú²õ±è;³Õ²¹±ô±ô±ð²â–G´Ç´Ç²õ±ð&²Ô²ú²õ±è;µþ²¹²â, these are exciting times for us and our students as we work to grow the number of nurses in practice. In 2026, more than 90 per cent of our first satellite-site graduates accepted positions in the regions where they studied. Our goal remains clear: to provide quality care that meets the health needs of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
As preceptors, clinical instructors and donors, you have been instrumental to our success. Your contributions to the Cahill Nursing Simulation Room, our Learning Resource Centre and student scholarships help our students develop and hone their clinical skills.
I look forward to seeing you at a future alumni event! Until then, I’d love to hear from you. Please share your memories, photos and story ideas with us at nursing60@mun.ca.
