BScN (Collaborative) Program: Admission Requirements

For international applicants to the 4-Year Option.

Accelerated Option: Current Status

The Accelerated Option is paused at both the St. John鈥檚 campus and Western Regional School of Nursing for Fall 2027. We will not be accepting applications to the Accelerated Option for any of our campuses for Fall 2027. For more information, contact the Nursing Admissions Office at nursingadmissions@mun.ca.
Note for international applicants who want to apply to the Western Regional School of Nursing (WRSON): If you select Grenfell campus on your application, you will not see nursing listed as an area of interest. You must first choose the St. John鈥檚 campus. Then, on the next step of your application, select WRSON as your 1st-choice campus. If you have questions about this, email nursingadmissions@mun.ca

Application Status & Important Dates

Priority for admission is given to applicants who are residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, but we welcome applications from international students.

The application for Fall 2026 has closed.

Applications are now open for Fall 2027 and the Spring 2027 LPN Bridging option. For all options, the application deadline is January 20 and the document deadline is February 3.

If you do not already meet the prerequisites for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Program, we advise international applicants to take courses at 91传媒 for two semesters before applying. During these two semesters, applicants should complete the required courses for admission: Biology 1001 and Biology 1002, one of Chemistry 1010, 1050, 1051, 1001 or 1810, and three credit hours in Math.

4-Year Option

International applicants with post-secondary experience are required to have completed in high school: Grade 11 Biology, Grade 12 Biology, Grade 12 Chemistry, and Grade 12 Math. If these courses were not completed in high school, applicants should take two semesters at 91传媒 to complete the required courses for admission into the 4-Year Option: ; one of Chemistry , ; and three credit hours in Math. In addition to these required courses, students may choose to complete some of the non-nursing elective courses during these two semesters.

International applicants applying directly out of high school are required to complete the following courses: Grade 11 Biology, Grade 12 Biology, Grade 12 Chemistry, Grade 12 Math, Grade 12 English, and a Grade 12 social science or modern language course.

To Be Competitive for Admission

To be competitive for admission, applicants should have a 70% average or higher, either from one semester of the calendar year prior to the one they are seeking admission to (with a minimum of three courses completed), or as a cumulative average 鈥� whichever is higher is used for admission into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) (Collaborative) Program.

Applicants Who Have Completed WAEC or NECO

Students who have completed the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) or National Examinations Council (NECO) with grades of C4 or higher in Math, Biology, and Chemistry may use those grades to meet the Nursing prerequisites 鈥� it is not necessary to also take Math, Biology, or Chemistry courses at 91传媒 or elsewhere. Students applying with WAEC/NECO credentials must still meet 91传媒鈥檚 general admission requirements, found here.

Required Items, Deadlines & Decisions

Required Items for International Students

  • You have the option to submit a personal statement with your nursing application, but it is not required.
  • Proof of Indigenous Ancestry, if applicable.
  • Proof of English Proficiency test, if applicable.
  • Official transcripts must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar.
  • References will only be requested if needed 鈥� the Admissions Coordinator will reach out to applicants directly.

All items must be submitted by February 3.

Transfer Credits

Transfer students applying to the 4-Year Option will automatically have a transfer credit evaluation completed by the Nursing Admissions Office once the admission application is received, to determine whether program admission requirements have been met.

For the 4-Year Option, only the required biology, chemistry, and math courses, along with the non-nursing courses, are evaluated for transfer credit.

Students admitted to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) (Collaborative) Program who wish to investigate their transfer credits should contact the Transfer Credit Office at transfer.credit@mun.ca.

Transcripts

Students applying to the 4-Year Option from a post-secondary institution other than 91传媒 must provide a current official interim transcript by the application deadline, and must also arrange to have all final official transcripts sent directly from the institution to the Office of the Registrar, 91传媒, once the academic year is complete.

Date for Required Courses to Be Completed

All required biology, math, and chemistry courses for admission must be completed by July 31. If courses will be outstanding, applicants should consult with and notify the Undergraduate Nursing Admissions Coordinator by emailing nursingadmissions@mun.ca.

Admission Decisions

Admission decisions are emailed to the applicant鈥檚 MUNmail account. To set up your MUNmail account, follow the instructions here. Be sure to check your junk mail folder, as the email may end up there.

Entry-Level Competencies for Nurse Practice

Students considering a career in nursing should review these entry-level competencies carefully, as they are the required guidelines for safe, competent nursing practice. Every student admitted to the BScN Program must meet the (formerly known as Requisite Skills and Abilities, under the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador, or CRNNL) to continue their acceptance.
