Nursing at Our Satellite Sites
The Four-Year Option of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) (Collaborative) Program is offered at three satellite sites: Gander, ³Ò°ù²¹²Ô»å&²Ô²ú²õ±è;¹ó²¹±ô±ô²õ–W¾±²Ô»å²õ´Ç°ù and ±á²¹±è±è²â&²Ô²ú²õ±è;³Õ²¹±ô±ô±ð²â–G´Ç´Ç²õ±ð&²Ô²ú²õ±è;µþ²¹²â.
Together with the Faculty of Nursing and the Centre for Nursing Studies in ³§³Ù.&²Ô²ú²õ±è;´³´Ç³ó²Ô’s, and the Western Regional School of Nursing at Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook, they make up six learning sites. Students at every site follow the same curriculum and earn the same 91´«Ã½ degree.
Which site is right for me?
The curriculum is the same at every site, so the best choice depends on your circumstances. When deciding, consider:
- Availability
- Cost of residence and transportation
- Student services available at each site
- Staying close to home, family and your support system, especially if you have children
On your application, you’ll rank your nursing site preferences. We recommend ranking all six sites.
Tuition support: Eligible students at Gander, ³Ò°ù²¹²Ô»å&²Ô²ú²õ±è;¹ó²¹±ô±ô²õ–W¾±²Ô»å²õ´Ç°ù and ±á²¹±è±è²â&²Ô²ú²õ±è;³Õ²¹±ô±ô±ð²â–G´Ç´Ç²õ±ð&²Ô²ú²õ±è;µþ²¹²â receive $2,000 per semester for each of the first two years (up to $8,000), applied directly to tuition, with no return-in-service obligation. These incentives are pending government approval.
Where will my classes take place?
Depending on the course, lectures are delivered on site or remotely. On-site courses are held in your program’s community: Gander, ³Ò°ù²¹²Ô»å&²Ô²ú²õ±è;¹ó²¹±ô±ô²õ–W¾±²Ô»å²õ´Ç°ù or ±á²¹±è±è²â&²Ô²ú²õ±è;³Õ²¹±ô±ô±ð²â–G´Ç´Ç²õ±ð&²Ô²ú²õ±è;µþ²¹²â.
Most lectures are not pre-recorded. They take place in real time, so you can interact with your instructor and classmates as you learn.
Where will my labs and clinical courses take place?
Labs are held in person in your program’s community. Clinical courses are also in person, supervised by a clinical instructor at a health-care facility in your region.
Clinical placements for some specialties may occasionally be held at another location, and travel may be required. Travel and accommodation costs for these placements are the student’s responsibility.
What supports are available at my site?
Nursing school can be demanding, and support is available wherever you study. The Faculty of Nursing offers nursing students at every site:
- Wellness Navigator: free, anonymous sessions, in person or online, with a licensed mental health counsellor
- Peer Navigators and Peer Guides: fellow students who offer encouragement, connection and advice as you settle into the program
- Peer Tutoring: help understanding course content, preparing for exams and building study strategies
- Nursing Lab Assistants: support at each site as you practise the nursing skills learned in lab
- 24/7 student support: free, confidential help any time of day, in more than 60 languages
Visit Nursing Student Supports for contact details and more information.
At the Labrador Campus, in-person services include access to the library and archive. The YMCA in ±á²¹±è±è²â&²Ô²ú²õ±è;³Õ²¹±ô±ô±ð²â–G´Ç´Ç²õ±ð&²Ô²ú²õ±è;µþ²¹²â also partners with the Labrador Campus to offer students rates similar to those at The Works on the ³§³Ù.&²Ô²ú²õ±è;´³´Ç³ó²Ô’s campus.
Where can I take the required first aid and BLS course?
You must complete a standard first aid and basic life support (BLS) course before the fall semester.
You can take the course wherever and whenever one is offered. It doesn’t need to be in the community where your program is located, so if a course closer to home is more convenient, that works too.
Pre-clinical requirements, including first aid and BLS certification, are coordinated by your learning site. After you confirm your seat, your site will send the requirements and submission deadlines.
Does 91´«Ã½ offer housing at the satellite sites?
91´«Ã½ doesn’t have residences or housing in Gander, ³Ò°ù²¹²Ô»å&²Ô²ú²õ±è;¹ó²¹±ô±ô²õ–W¾±²Ô»å²õ´Ç°ù or ±á²¹±è±è²â&²Ô²ú²õ±è;³Õ²¹±ô±ô±ð²â–G´Ç´Ç²õ±ð&²Ô²ú²õ±è;µþ²¹²â, but private accommodations are available in each community.

Can I transfer to another site after first year?
You should expect to complete your program at the site where you’re registered. Transfers may be considered if space is available at your preferred site, but they are rare.
Students who accept satellite-site tuition support are not eligible to transfer to the ³§³Ù.&²Ô²ú²õ±è;´³´Ç³ó²Ô’s campus.
I left my job to relocate. Can I work remotely for 91´«Ã½?
Some positions with 91´«Ã½â€™s Undergraduate Career Experience Program (MUCEP) may be available remotely. The MUCEP page lists current postings and explains how to apply.
If a posting interests you, contact the employer to ask whether the position can be done remotely.
